Q. What are your hours of operation?
A. Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-9:00 p.m.
Friday-Saturday 9:00 am-5:00 p.m.
Sunday 1:00 pm-5:00 pm
Q. Can I get a passport from the Library?
A. To apply for your passport you may submit your application, required documents and payment at our library between 9:30 am and 8:00 pm Monday thru Thursday, between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, and between 1:30 pm and 4:00 on Sunday. Call the Reference Desk at 314-821-5770 ext. 20 for more information.
Q. Who is eligible for a Library card?
A.

All residents of the City of Kirkwood are eligible for a free card. Anyone under 18 years of age must appear with a parent or legal guardian. The parent or legal guardian must sign the library card application.

Since the metro-wide reciprocal lending agreement of May 31, 2000, all residents of St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles City/County are also eligible for free cards.

All others may obtain a card for a $100/year per family.

Q. What identification is required for a Library card?
A. A valid driver's license or state ID showing current address. For new residents a valid occupancy permit, recent utility bill, or an imprinted check may be used as proof of current address when accompanied by photo ID.
Q. How long can I keep items borrowed from Kirkwood Public Library?
A. Audio visual materials.................................................3 weeks with 2 renewals

Hot Reads...................................................................2 weeks no renewals
Magazines (only back issues are circulated)...............1 week no renewals

Q. How do I renew the materials that I have checked out?
A. If no one has placed a request for an item, you are allowed 2 renewals for each item. Renewals may be done online, by phone or in person.
Q. How much are overdue fines and fees for lost/damaged materials?
A.

Lost/damaged materials.......................Item cost + $5.00 processing fee
Missing DC/Video case..........................$1.00 each

Q. How can I check my record and renew my materials from home?
A. You may call the Adult Services Department at 314-821-5770 ext. 0 to renew items. You may also go the Library Web site at www.kpl.lib.mo.us, click on Catalog and then click on My Account. You will need your Library card number. 
Q. Can the Kirkwood Public Library card be used at any other libraries?
A. Your library card may be used at the libraries in the Municipal Library Consortium of St. Louis County (MLC). These libraries are Brentwood Public Library, Ferguson Municipal Library, Kirkwood Public Library, Maplewood Public Library, Richmond Heights Memorial Library, Rock Hill Public Library, University City Public Library, Webster Groves Public Library and Valley Park Community Library.
Q. Can I return an item I checked out from one MLC library to another?
A. Yes, any MLC library item, as well as any item from St. Louis City Library, St. Louis County Library and St. Charles City/County Library, can be returned to any of these libraries. The item will be returned to the original library.
Q. How can I get items that are not in the Kirkwood Public Library collection?
A. Any item listed in our catalog but in another MLC library collection can be requested using the online catalog, by phone (314-821-5770, ext.20) or in person. Unless the items are checked out, they will arrive at Kirkwood Public Library within 2-3 days. If an item is not in our catalog, it may be available through interlibrary loan or an info-pass.
Q. What is an interlibrary loan?
A. When we do not have an item in our catalog, Kirkwood residents can request it through a nationwide network. This process usually takes 10-14 days. Call 314-821-5770, ext. 20 or visit the Kirkwood Public Library Information Services Desk to place your request. You may also enter your request through the database First Search found on the Library's Web site.
Q. What is an Info-Pass?
A. An Info-Pass is a one-time "card" to a library in the St. Louis area. The pass is available at the Reference Desk (314-821-5770, ext. 20).
Q. Do you have any children's programs?
A. We offer programs for children of all ages including an extensive summer reading program. For toddlers and preschoolers we have regular story times. Please check the online calendar for further details or call 314-821-5770 ext. 15.
Q. May I use a computer and get on the Internet at the Library?
A. A number of computers available for public use have Internet access. The Library also provides a wireless system. For the wireless, Library laptop computers may be used within the confines of the building or personal laptops with wireless capability may be brought into the building.
Q. Do I need a library card to use the computers? Is there a time limit?
A. Any Municipal Library Consortium card can be used to access the computers. However, nonresidents may be issued guest cards. There is a time limit of 100 minutes per day per person/card for computer use. 
Q. Do you have a copy machine?
A. Yes, we have black and white copiers on each floor as well as a color copier at the Adult Reference Desk. Black and white copies are 15 cents each. Color copies are $1.00 each.
Q. Can I bring food into the Library?
A. Food may be brought into the Library. We also have snack and drink machines. You may eat throughout the library except at the computer stations. We ask that you are courteous with your litter and dispose of it properly.
Q. Do you have tax forms?
A. We have the basic Federal and Missouri tax forms. We can help you find other forms and instructions by using the reproducibles or accessing the government Web sites.
Q. Do you have meeting rooms for the public?
A.

The library is now accepting applications for use of the meeting room in the newly renovated library, 140 E. Jefferson.  Please read the meeting room policy and fill out an application. Applications and questions should be directed to the Youth Services Department, 821-5770, ext. 1015.

Q. How do I donate items to the Library?
A. Donation bins are located in the lobby of the Library and also outside in the back alley behind the Library. If a donated item is not added to the Library collection, the Friends of the Kirkwood Public Library will sell it as part of their fund-raising efforts.
