Since 1978, Friends of the Kirkwood Public Library have raised funds and donated thousands of volunteer hours. Over $430,000 has been donated to the Library since 1978, and $27,500 to the Kirkwood Public Library Foundation and countless volunteer hours have been provided by the Friends. Proceeds from memberships, contributions, the Book Fair, Greentree Books Shop and other special events have enabled the Friends to fund:
- Acquisition of books, books, and more books.
- A variety of outstanding programs of literary and historic interest.
- Increasing the endowment fund.
- Purchase of new furniture and shelving for the children's room.
- Purchase of a microfilm reader/printer.
- Construction of an office for the children's librarian.
- Match a grant for installation of the mezzanine lift.
- Purchase of desktop publishing equipment to print informational materials.
- Purchase of a large screen television for the children's room.
- Continuing education for Library staff.
- On-line Book Club
- Purchase of book drops
- Purchase of CD cabinets
